Week 1: Recap and Standings
Week 1:
Let me tell you folks, we had an absolutely tremendous start to BSL this week. Some might say that it was the greatest first week in BSL history. It was amazing, really amazing. The best bowlers, the best scores, I mean, just fantastic.
We had lanes packed with energy, folks. People were throwing strikes left and right, and let me tell you, nobody throws a strike like we do. It's true. We had some big league bowlers, the kind of bowlers that make you say, "Wow!"
I heard from so many people, they were saying, "Commissioner, this league is the best league ever!" And you know what? They're right. We've got winners in this league, folks. Winners all over the place.
So let me just say, Week 1 of this bowling league was a total success. A tremendous success. And we're just getting started, folks. Just getting started. So get ready for more strikes, more spares, and more winning. Because that's what we do. Thank you, and let's make bowling great again!
Recap:
The X-men vs. Shy Guys
The enigmatic Shy Guys, who came into the league a complete mystery, walked away from the match up with a 7-0 sweep. However, their first matchup did little to discern the identity of the team. Van Nguyen, who has always been a stalwart figure in BSL, turned in an abysmal series and found himself in the cellar this week alongside fellow teammate Thinh Nguyen. Despite the slow start for the 2 Shy Guys, game 1 really set the tone for the night. Tiff and Anny threw their fallen teammates onto their shoulders like a couple of ABGs at an Illenium show, and danced their way to a 700 series each, easily landing them the top 1 and top 2 bowlers of the week
Alliance vs. The Puzzle Fighters
In an electrifying bowling match between Alliance and Puzzle Fighters Team Alliance emerged victorious in a closely contested battle, securing a thrilling 5-2 victory. The Puzzle Fighters started the match at a disadvantage as Dillon Nguyen was penalized for a late arrival. However, Dillon easily made up for the penalty by starting off with a turkey. The Puzzle Fighters secured game 1 by 37 pins. Game 2 came down to the final frame, Alliance down by 21 pins. Tony Nguyen, who is sneakingly becoming one of the most clutch shooters in the league, put his captain pants on and snatched the game by closing out the final frame with a turkey.
ONIX vs. GTA: SA
The highly anticipated rematch of 2023’s championship match transpired into another nail-biting matchup from week 1. ONIX managed to edge out GTA: SA and walked out of week 1 with a 5-2 victory. Both teams came out firing on all cylinders and never let off the gas. Each game went down to the wire and was determined by less than 10 pins each. ONIX was able to take game 1 and 2. In similar fashion, game 3 was determined by the final frame of the matchup. Le Nguyen, the #1 raw scoring bowler in 2023 was presented with the chance for a walk off homerun to sweep GTA. With ONIX down by 10 pins, Le hits 8 pins with his first throw. The game is now down to the final throw, with ONIX now down by 2 pins, and 2 pins left on the lane. Uncharacteristically, Le was unable to pick up the spare needed.
Starcraft vs. Ballislife
In a battle where both teams appear to still be knocking out the cobwebs, they struggled to find their rhythm. 6 players in this match ended up in the bottom 10 of week 1. After game 1, larger than life, Carson Chan disappeared. A couple “Ahhh yeah!” and “That’s the stuff” was heard in the distance. Starcraft, now with Carson 8 stim-packs deep, dunked on the NBA JAM team, took the ball, and went home with the 2nd sweep of the night.
RedSuns vs. Shadow
Rounding out week 1 was the closest matchup of the week on paper. Heading into the contest, the RedSuns were given a miniscule 5 pins. The match proved to be even closer as Shadow took game 1 by a mere 2 pins. Tracy Nguyen of the RedSuns led the comeback in game 2. The matchup now 1-1 heading into game 3, Shadow continued with their speedy onslaught. Unfortunately for Shadow, the new dynamic duo of the RedSuns, Huy Nguyen and Stephen Chiu, were too quick for the speedy hedgehogs and raced away with a 5 - 2 win. The highest scoring match up of the night, Shadow is defeated by one of the only teams this week that was actually capable of accomplishing the task.
