POWER RANKINGS:
WEEK 1
Starcraft 7-0
WHO TF IS CARSON?!? It’s a joke, of course we know who tf Carson Chan is. If you don’t, you better get to know him. Even though Carson himself couldn’t contain it’s power, his Brooklyn was unstoppable. 12 strikes, are you kidding me?!?! Despite an underwhelming performance from the highly anticipated rookie Shelby — Andy led his team with confidence through 3 games and swept what was initially thought to be one of the strongest teams, NBA Jams. Earning them the #1 spot this week.
Alliance 5-2
If you’re new to the league, you will soon recognize vibes win matches. The vibes surrounding Alliance last week is all the evidence you’ll need for this. Just the first day of the season, Tony’s position as team anchor was already put to the test. With game 2 on the line, Tony Nguyen was asked to step up as the team clutch player. With all that Purple, Cobra blood in him he definitely delivered. This team has it all, with great energy, a strong punch, strong survival instincts, they will be a highly competitive team throughout the season. Captain Tony Nguyen did a fine job drafting and proving to his team that he is worthy of being their leader. I wouldn’t be surprised if Alliance remains in the top of the power rankings for the remainder of the season. However, I do believe that there is another team, that is similarly built, that has the potential to be a threat, and no, it’s not StarCraft.
RedSuns 5-2
RedSun clearly has the strongest duo, Huy Nguyen and Stephen Chiu, and that likely won’t change anytime soon. Coming in as the top 1 - 2 raw bowlers of the week, they were able to bounce back from a gut wrenching 2 pin loss in game 1 to win the series 5-2. This team has a ton of upside, but they had to do a lot of heavy lifting to snag these wins. Captain Huy is no rookie to this league and this year he brought along his sidekick, Stephen. Huy then added one of the most intriguing value picks in BSL history, Andrew Dai. The ceiling is high for this rookie who started this season with an average of 88 pins (WTF that’s possible?!, if you watched him.. it is possible). The power of RedSun really comes down to how well Tracy & rookie Andrew will be able to perform under pressure, so we’ll be leaving them at #3 for now.
ShyGuys 7-0
Now now, I know what you’re thinking. The Shy Guys swept, they’re 7-0, you have them ranked at #4?! Well it’s called power ranking for a reason!! Don’t let their first game fool you, never in BSL history will you have two top 5 and two cellar dwellers as a top power ranked team. The imbalance here is crazy! I don’t know if there’s sand on the lanes or Van is showing his true OG form. My bet is they have a master plan, and I don’t know what that is, but there is way too much that doesn’t add up here.
ONIX 5-2
An early season prediction, I think this will be a deep playoff team. I don’t care what you think or what the numbers show for week 1. The bowling IQ on this team is too strong. Teams will want to avoid playing against Onix if they have a choice. Too bad they won’t. Onix has vibes, odd celebrations, and can pack a punch. They were just in a different mode and always seem to figure things out when it matters.
GTA: SA 2-5
10/10 on their jersey! 6/10 on the power ranking! Too bad this wasn’t a fashion show, I’d have them at #1. GTA has the oldest duo in the league, Johnny & Jimmy. I lost count how many seasons they played together and haven’t won a ring. Hopefully they can be the Tatum and Brown of this year and really rebrand as the “best duo” in BSL history. Or will they just be 2 old farts. Jokes aside, this team can go against anyone on their good day, but that’s if they ever catch a good day together… Okay okay one thing is for sure, they are a playoff team, I mean, how can you not when the top 6 teams out of 10 are playoff bound!
Shadow 2-5
The only shadow here is the curse that Tho carries with him. After winning game 1 by 2 pins, we believed that Tango was finally able to free Tho of this troublesome curse. However, the shadow of Tho’s past grew darker under the bright light of the RedSuns and Shadow found themselves 0-1 to start the season. They clearly have the vibes, and honestly, they really didn’t do that bad, it was just up against a really good team. It was close each game, frame by frame, but in the end the curse remains the curse. I really think this is Tho’s season and I’m sure he does too… for 3 seasons now.
Puzzle Fighters 2-5
The Puzzle Fighters are loaded with potential. Dillon Nguyen, one of the 4th St. rookies, had a strong performance and will likely be the focal point of this team. Unfortunately for them, the regular season is only 7 weeks long, and I’m not sure if that’ll be enough time for them. The quicker they lift up this rookie and mold him into the leader of the team, the better their chances will be down the stretch.
Ballislife 0-7
Jayt aka Mr. 300 was at a discount this week, 50% off. (150 avg.) If JayT was a card in Uno, he would be the Wild, draw 4 Shots card. Maybe it was the first week jitters or maybe because he was looking for his gf throughout game 1. This team should not be struggling like this. I don’t think it can get much worse from here so expect them to be on the up.
X-Men 0-7
Rough start for a team that seems like they drafted everyone they wanted. Without a question this team has vibes, Isaac and T.P. are absolutely drenched in vibes every year. However, week 1 is always tough for many teams. I’m expecting them to bounce back next week because this isn’t the TP that I know. Maybe they really haven’t been the same since the departure of their longtime teammate Adam Mao in exchange for the fastest bowler in BSL, Tim “The Loose Cannon” Bevins. I don’t know what it is, I personally don’t think it’s a player issue, but whatever it is, they need to figure it out while there’s still time.
